Another modified Stuart medium, replaces glycerophosphate with inorganic phosphate, and add calcium and magnesium salts for controlling the permeability of the bacterial cells and so contributing to their survival. This modified medium yielded a higher percentage of positive cultures. In all cases, specimens should be cultivated as soon as possible or stored in therefrigerator if delay is unavoidable.
